Unleashing the Spirit of Adventure: The Kids Adventure Games Captivate Vail

The Kids Adventure Games, a beloved annual event in Vail, Colorado, celebrated its 15th anniversary over the weekend, transforming the village into a thrilling obstacle course for children aged 6 to 14. Inspiring the Next Generation of Outdoor Enthusiasts

A Playground for Young Adventurers

The Kids Adventure Games in Vail have become a cherished tradition, drawing families from near and far to witness the incredible feats of their young participants. This year's event saw a remarkable turnout, with 126 teams competing on Friday and Saturday, and an additional 84 teams on Sunday, amounting to a total of 672 children taking on the challenge. The courses, ranging from 2.5 to 4 miles in length, were designed to test the physical and mental fortitude of the young competitors. Featuring a diverse array of obstacles, including biking, hiking, and water sections, the courses challenged the participants to navigate slick walls, swift water crossings, blow dart targets, cargo nets, and rock climbing features.

A Seamless Execution

According to the event's organizer, Helene Mattison, this year's Kids Adventure Games in Vail might have been the smoothest yet from an operational standpoint. "All three days, there were no hiccups," she remarked. "No weather issues, no controversies, everything stayed on schedule, all the volunteers showed up, really it was nearly perfect."The event's high-visibility location in Vail Village has been a key factor in its success, as visiting families are able to witness the children competing and inquire about how to sign up for the following year. The event often sells out quickly, and day-of registration is not allowed, so interested families are encouraged to join an email list at KidsAdventureGames.com/stay-informed to stay informed about registration openings.

Rebuilding After the Pandemic

The Kids Adventure Games faced a significant challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the event was forced to take a hiatus in 2020. When it returned in 2021, it was with a scaled-down format, with only two events taking place, neither of which were held in Vail Village. However, the event's return to Vail Village in the summer of 2022 marked a significant milestone in the event's recovery. Mattison and her team have been steadily ramping up the event's operations, with the goal of expanding to five events in different locations across the country next summer."We're at the point where we're re-igniting it," Mattison said on Sunday. "And that was showing for me today — we're back, we had fun, and this is what a successful event looks like. It was a great weekend."The Kids Adventure Games have always been about more than just the competition. They serve as a platform to inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts, fostering a love for adventure and a sense of community among the participants and their families. As the event continues to grow and evolve, it remains a testament to the boundless spirit of the young adventurers who take on its challenges, and the dedicated organizers who make it all possible.
