Whether they're strategizing in the eSports Lounge or engaging in friendly rivalries, the camaraderie and sense of belonging are palpable."I find the competitive environment very enjoyable," shares Nick Paschell, a sophomore Music Industry major from Long Island, NY. "I like being a part of the team and embracing the community that it fosters." For Paschell, the eSports team has become a haven where he can immerse himself in the thrill of competition and connect with like-minded individuals.

The eSports team at SUNY Fredonia is no stranger to the virtual battlegrounds. With a diverse roster of games, including Overwatch, Valorant, Super Smash Bros: Ultimate, Rocket League, Fortnite Duos, and Counter Strike 2, these digital athletes are honing their skills across a wide range of genres."Each game differs on how it works," explains advisor Mark Mackey. "Teams will compete, head-to-head as individuals or as teams, to rack up as many wins as they can to reach the playoffs and ultimately play for a league championship." This multifaceted approach allows the team to showcase their versatility and adaptability, making them a formidable force in the eSports landscape.

For many of the eSports team members, the thrill of competition is what drives them. Prince Ntor, a senior Business Administration: Management major with a minor in Communication from Rochester, NY, finds solace in the immersive world of gaming. "I like the sense of community in it and being able to be immersed in the environment and taking a break from the outside world," he shares.Alexis Barron, a sophomore dual major in Visual Arts and New Media: Graphic Design and Visual Arts and New Media: Digital Film Production from Skaneateles, NY, has a unique role on the team. As the social media manager, she arranges practices and communicates with other teams, all while nurturing the team's camaraderie. "I like playing video games, but not competitively. I like helping the players as much as I can," she says, highlighting the diverse contributions that make the eSports team thrive.
